The war between pizza and pasta lovers is never-ending. The fans of the two dishes barely want to switch sides. Indeed, personalities are being identified as pizza-lover or pasta-lover, just like a cat-lover or dog-lover. These two most relished Italian dishes have admirers all over the world who appreciate them for variety and flavours yet distinguish them for preparation techniques, sauces, and health reasons.

 As pizza and pasta belong to the same cuisine, they share many things in common. Both the dishes are available in a variety of ingredients. Pasta and pizza base are available in dough with different flours like whole-wheat and multigrain, and pureed vegetables like spinach and beetroot. These dishes also use common ingredients for flavouring including herbs, spices, vegetables, cheese, and oils. Both are part of the Italian kitchen and therefore have many similarities.

 Despite the similarities, pizza and pasta are quite different. Pizza is prepared using the baking technique, while pasta uses boiling technique. Pizza sauce is often tomato-based and cooked when baking the pizza. Contrarily, pasta sauces can be tomato-based or cream-based. Pasta sauces are cooked well separately before adding pasta. A whole-wheat pizza with lots of vegetables is considered healthy than pasta as it uses minimal oil and baking technique. Pizza and pasta differ with each other in many ways and that is why people have preferences of one over another.

 Though pizza and pasta have many similarities, they are different from each other in many ways. Knowing your food helps in selecting the most suitable ingredients and dishes according to one’s preferences. What would you be ordering next, pizza or pasta?
